When will we receive the game schedule?
Our league, Rugby Virginia, like most youth sport leagues, goes through a couple iterations of a schedule and publishes the first game schedule the week of or the week before the first regular season games. Spring games will start in late February or early March. Summer games start in mid-June.
What days/times are games played? Games are usually played on Saturday mornings; ending early afternoon. However, there late Saturday games are possible as well as Friday night or Sunday games. The weather and field availability plays a role game (re)scheduling. Mid-week 'friendlies' during the summer are also possible.
The summer season ends with a weekend long tournament over the last, or second to last, full weekend in July. One day of the tournament is devoted to Touch and one Tackle games. Each team has at least 4 matches in the tournament.
Where are games played?
Games are a mix of home and away. Our home field will usually be the same as our practice field; Oakton HS or Oak Marr Rec Center. Away game locations vary based on our opponent. Most opponents are in Northern Virginia; Fairfax, Arlington or Loudon counties. We may also play in Montgomery county, Maryland.
Who will we be playing against?
We will be playing against other youth rugby clubs in northern Virginia. There is a growing number of youth rugby clubs in northern Virginia - MYA (McLean),Great Falls, VYI (Vienna/Oakton), CYA (Chantilly), FPYC (Fairfax), BRYC (Burke), SYC (Springfield), FHYAA (Fort Hunt/Mount Vernon), Alexandria (city), LYR (Loudoun), Warrenton and Winchester. We may also play some matches against nearby Maryland teams (Potomac, Bowie, Silver Spring, Burtonsville, etc).

What else should player bring to games?
Water, water, WATER!!! Or any sports drink. Always be sure to drink plenty of water starting a couple hours before the game. Bring at least two quarts of water to the game. In summer it will be hot, especially later in the season and players will need to drink plenty of water. In spring player hydration is equally important, players may not feel as thirsty due to cooler weather, so they need to consciously drink fluids, before, during and after games.
