END OF SEASON TOURNAMENT
After the regular season, all leagues, except 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders, will have a tournament within their league to determine the league champion. The tournament will be single elimination with brackets determined based on regular season records. The top eight seeds based on a play down conducted the final week of the regular season, or the eight teams with the best records in the regular season, depending upon commissioner preference, are guaranteed at least one additional game beyond the 11th scheduled regular season weekend. Leagues with more than eight teams must use the eleventh week of the regular season to play down to the final eight tournament teams, so the 11th week is considered a tournament weekend.
If there is a tie in the standings at the end of the regular season period (usually 10 games), the first tie-breaker is head to head competition among the teams tied and the second is record against common opponents. If adequate gym space is available and enough time exists a play in game might be played. If a play in game is not possible and a tie still exists a coin toss by the commissioner or their designated representative should be completed and the results reported via email.
Final standings must be reported by the league commisisoner to the league office at
to allow set up of the tournament pairings as soon as possible, but no later than Tuesday following the last game of the regular season, when the final standings are known.
Trophies/plaques will be awarded to all players on the final four teams in each tournament. Regular season trophies are not provided by the league, but may be provided by parents or coaches, at their discretion. Participation awards will be given to instructional players in the 1st through 3rd grades.
ALL STAR TEAMS AND GAMES
HOUSE ALL STARS
The commissioners for grades 4-9 leagues will each form two All Star teams of 8-12 players from the participants in their leagues. The All Star game will be played after the final tournament game is completed on Finals Sunday in March. All Star jerseys will be provided by VYI.
Commissioners of these grade levels should form teams in consultation with their league coaches. VYI requires that each house league team have one player participate in the All Star game.
All Star games are intended to be a fun, end of the season game.
After some seasons All Star boy and girl players, normally in the 5th, 7th and 9th grade leagues participate in the Turnpike Tournament.
The "Turnpike Tournament" is a competitive age/gender specific tourney against other clubs held after the completion of the VYI season. The "Turnpike Tournament" teams will be chosen by the League Commissioners of the 5th, 7th and 9th grade leagues, in conjunction with their league coaches or other outside help. Additional teams may be formed, but parents will be responsible for all costs associated with extra Turnpike teams. The cost is approximately $40 per player for an extra team.
Commissioners are urged to have their Turnpike head coach, selected by the League Commissioner, conduct a tryout of the best players from each team, but with no guaranteed number of slots by team. The coach picks the best 10 players in the age group based on the tryout. If two teams are selected, VYI strongly urges not to split talent between the two teams as the tournament is very competitive. Gym time is available for tryouts and for practice by contacting the House Commissioner.
