All people who work in VYI Basketball are volunteers. Many of our coach volunteers at the House League level have only a spectator's knowledge of basketball. Consequently, "coaches" are acting in a recreational/organizational capacity rather than in the capacity of a professional basketball coach and parents must recognize this.
For volunteer coaches who need a good set of proven drills click on "Leagues" in the left hand column and then the league you are interested in. Then click on the drills appropriate to that age level.
For volunteers who wish to learn more basketball drills - visit http://www.coachesclipboard.net.
VYI does not expect "Coach K" type coaching from its House League volunteers, or demand a winning record. VYI does expect House coaches to organize their practices, to enjoy themselves, to try to show the children they are working with a good time, and to be a good role model. It is further expected that coaches will discuss and stress sportsmanship, the principles of team play, and attempt to teach their players whatever fundamental basketball skills they can using the drills and practice outlines detailed above.
