Rugby Virginia groups players in competition levels by age.  U14 and below are coed.  U16 and above are single sex. Age is based on the players age on 01 September of the prior year. 

The levels of play are:

• U6 - Coed Tag 
• U8 - Coed Tag
• U10 - Coed Tag
• U12 - Coed Tag
• U12 - Coed Tackle
• U14 - Coed tackle
• U16 - Girls tackle
• U16 - Boys tackle
• 18U - Girls tackle
• 18U - Boys tackle

Tag rugby is played in accordance with Federation of International Touch (FIT) rules.

Tackle rugby is played in accordance with World Rugby Law.
