What days/times are games played?
Games are usually played on Saturday mornings; ending early afternoon. However, there late Saturday games are possible as well as Friday night or Sunday games. The weather and field availability plays a role game (re)scheduling. Mid-week 'friendlies' during the summer are also possible.
Where are games played?
Games are a mix of home and away. Our home field will usually be the same as our practice field; Oakton HS or Oak Marr Rec Center. Away game locations vary based on our opponent. Most opponents are in Northern Virginia; Fairfax, Arlington or Loudon counties. We may also play in Montgomery county, Maryland.
Who will we be playing against?
We will be playing against other youth rugby clubs in northern Virginia. There is a growing number of youth rugby clubs in northern Virginia - Springfield, Alexandria, Great Falls, Fort Hunt, Etc. We will play matches against some teams farther afield in Virginia, e.g., Richmond and Winchester. We may also play some matches against nearby Maryland teams (Potomac, Rockville, Bethesda, etc).
When will we receive the game schedule?
Our league, Rugby Virginia, like most youth sport leagues, goes through a couple iterations of a schedule and publishes the first game schedule the week of or the week before the first regular season games. Spring games will start in late February or early March. Summer games start in mid-June.
WHAT TO BRING TO GAMES
What do players need to bring to the game?

Players are expected to wear the proper team uniform to games. White rugby shorts and team socks issued for the season. Jerseys are handed-out at games time and collected at the end of the game.
What else should player bring to games?
Water, water, WATER!!! Or any sports drink. Always be sure to drink plenty of water starting the evening before the game. Team water bottles are provided during games, But players should have water to re-hydrate on the ride home. In spring, player hydration is equally important, players may not feel as thirsty due to cooler weather, so they need to consciously drink fluids, before, during and after games.
Do parents need to stay at the game?
Parents are expected to stay at the game or to arrange with another parent for transportation. In the event of a medical emergency where a parent/guardian is not present a athletic trainer, other medical provider, or coach will administer first aid and call an ambulance if needed.
Will games be canceled for bad weather?
Rugby VA follows the Fairfax county guidelines for severe weather and heat. If severe weather/heat is forecasted or develops, games may be canceled.
